3 Day (4 Night) Lord of the Rings Tour - visit LOTR filming locations in New Zealand

This is not only a Lord of the Rings tour but also a fabulous scenic tour from Christchurch to Queenstown. (View Video)

It also includes a visit to spectacular Milford Sound and the Fiordland National Park.

  • We will pick you up from your accommodation in Christchurch.

    Day 1: Christchurch to Queenstown (via Southern Alps & Lakes)

    Canterbury Plains
    Leave from Christchurch at 8am (we will pick you up from your accommodation) and drive south passing lush green farmland of Canterbury where you will see lots of sheep, cattle and deer farms.

  • Lake Tekapo

  • Heading inland, the landscape soon changes from rolling hills to spectacular mountains and lakes. We stop at Lake Tekapo for photos and lunch.

  • Mt Cook

  • We also pass the picturesque Lake Pukaki with spectacular views of Aoraki/Mt Cook (New Zealand's highest mountain).

  • The Pelennor Fields from the Return of the King

  • Just south of Lake Pukaki you will have the opportunity to view the countryside where the Pelennor fields battles took place from the Return of the King.

  • River Anduin

  • Further south, we take you to the River Anduin and also to the location of the Pillars of the Kings .

  • Queenstown

  • Heading further south takes us to spectacular Queenstown where you will check in to your hotel and then enjoy time to yourself exploring this beautiful alpine town.

  • Copthorne Hotel Queenstown

  • Accommodation - Stay in Queenstown's beautiful Copthorne Hotel. The hotel is centrally located and you are guaranteed lake views from your room.

  • Day 2: Te Anau and Milford Sound (Fiordland)

    Lake Te Anau
    8am the next morning, we visit the beautiful Fiordland National park. The first stop is at scenic Lake Te Anau for photos and a short break.

  • Our final stop for the day is at the spectacular Milford Sound - an ecological and natural wonderland that will take your breath away.

  • Milford Sound Boat Cruise

  • Enjoy an exciting adventure exploring the mighty Fiords on a Milford Sound boat cruise. See waterfalls, Dolphins, Seals and much more.

  • Accommodation (2nd Night) - We return to Queenstown where you spend your second night at the Copthorne Hotel.



  • Day 3: Queenstown (and returning to Christchurch)

    Lord of the Rings RingView LORD OF THE RINGS SITES

    See locations of;
    - the pellanor battle field
    - the misty mountains
    - the river anduin
    - where sam and frodo first saw oliphants
    - the pillars of the kings


  • LORT shop

  • You will also visit the Lord of the Rings shop where you will be able to buy various LOTR memorabilia including t-shirts & more. (Shop open October - April)

  • Skyline Luge

  • After lunch, enjoy a thrilling ride on the Shotover Jet Boat speeding through the deep canyons of the Shotover river. An adrenalin rush to remember.

  • Return to Christchurch (leaving Queenstown at approximately 1pm, arriving Christchurch at 6pm).

  • End of the Tour (we will drop you off at your accommodation) and the following day will take you to the airport.
